Marching Army is a board game created by qrid in the fall of 2025. It is played by two people on a 4x4 board with 24 pieces. The game is a mix of strategy and luck, and is in many ways comparable to Backgammon.
On a turn, the player rolls a single d6 and then moves that amount with their pieces. They can use that roll in different ways -- for example, if a player rolls a 4, they could move 1 piece 4 spaces, 2 pieces 2 spaces, 3 pieces 1, 1, and 2 spaces, et cetera. A piece can move in any orthogonal direction, and up to 3 pieces - of either side - can occupy a single space. If a space is fully occupied, a piece cannot enter it. If 3 pieces of one side move in the same direction at the same time, they can "bust" a single piece or 2 pieces of the opposite side by moving into that space. The busted piece(s) return to the first rank. The objective of the game is to get all of your 12 pieces to the other side before the other player.
